ARTIST STATEMENT
Exploration in process highlights my art. Drawing has been an integral part of my work, exploring line quality using materials such as acrylics, pastel, pencil, ink, charcoal, thread, paint and folds and ridges on paper – all have unique qualities that expand my creative process.
Throughout my work, I have utilized multiple and varied lines to communicate a message. Black lines and color-wash create landscapes reflecting the vastness of the Outer Cape. Layering charcoal and acrylics enhance significant aspects of form. Black lines cut through Mylar reveal inner messages. Thread used as line holds pieces together. Pools of ink add to the sense of movement. Crushed paper highlighted with charcoal and pastel creates dimension.
It’s all about a journey. The path each line takes, I follow.
